She makes a killer moodboard, wrote a book at 18 and hung out with Tavi Gevinson. Meet blogger Kate Nutting, AKA Pretty Dresses in the Laundry
Hi Kate! How did you get into blogging?
I started back in 2010 on a whim after a friend did. I didn’t see the point of blogging but thought I would give it a go, and after a couple of days, I was hooked.
What’s behind the name, Pretty Dresses in the Laundry?
It is based on an old wives’ tale that only pretty dresses leave the laundry clean…
Talented female bloggers seem to be taking over the world. Who inspires you and why?
Shelby Hamilton for her unique creativity, Zoe Suen for her epic coolness and Tara Milktea for her insane flatlay-ing ability and talent.
Any pinch-me moments in your career so far?
I had brunch with Tavi Gevinson back in 2013 – it was incredible to sit and down and chat with blogging royalty. And I am still on cloud nine from attending Australian fashion week this year for the first time.
So you wrote a book on blogging…at 18! Tell us more!
It was such a fun process! I started off by planning out and brainstorming everything that needed to go into it and then I just started writing and pulling it together. I had full creative control so it was great. Receiving the proof copy in the mail was the most exciting thing ever!
How would you describe your personal style?
It’s ever-changing. One day it’s minimalistic or sports-luxe inspired, and the next day it’s preppy or grungy or very 70’s.
Where do you find your inspo?
Pinterest and Instagram! My daily scroll keeps me inspired as does gawking at people’s outfits while I’m out and about.
What would we typically find in your creative zone?
It’s usually a jumble of things. I always keep dandelion tea, my diary, post it notes and highlighters near me. I’m an organisation freak
Whose wardrobe would you raid if you had the chance?
Margaret Zhang or Sarah Ellen’s – it would be a dream!
