A typical day

I start my day off by reading fashion blogs and scrolling through Instagram over my morning coffee to get inspired. Being a Visual Merchandiser is about being creative, fashion-forward and on top of the trends which are constantly changing - so getting my creative juices flowing is a big must. I start the working day off with a walk through of the store with the VM team and store manager. Campaign launch week is a crazy but very fun week where we set up the new product, style the mannequins and trial new displays. We travel throughout Victoria doing this for a good portion of the month then focus on training staff members on the importance of Visual Merchandising. The best part about being a VM is that you are in a different store every day, so no day or week or month is the same, and the atmosphere is always energetic.

What does it take to be an amazing Visual Merchandiser?

A love of retail and fashion!!! I started on the shop floor as a casual then after high school enrolled in a Diploma of Visual Merchandising. However, if you have the passion and creativity, then a diploma isn't really needed. The majority of my team members have worked their way up without a formal qualification. .

If you could go back in time and give yourself one piece of career advice, what would it be?

Don't take yourself too seriously! Have fun and don't be afraid to try new things. Also, make sure you have a reliable car as you will be driving around a lot!

Your team

The best part about working for Supre is of course the team! I work in a team of three and we’re a very close knit bunch. We’re constantly bouncing ideas off each other, drawing inspiration from the smallest of things and sharing creative plans. We also work very closely with State, Area and Store Managers to ensure consistency across all stores. I also love that we train and promote from within and we are always on the lookout for that next VM superstar.

What advice would you give someone thinking about applying for a job with Supre?

To work at Supre you must love to be on the move – whether it's 12pm on a Saturday and it's super busy or it’s launch week and you have to merchandise the store, you have to constantly be ON! A love of fashion and not being afraid to try different trends is also desirable.
